King County extends an invitation for the public to take part in a free, guided tour of its Cedar Hills Regional Landfill on April 27.
As a part of the county’s Earth Week series of educational events, the tour will last for about an hour and limited space means that reservations will be required.
Cedar Hill is the last operating landfill in King County. It covers 920 acres and takes in about 800,000 tons of garbage each year from the county, excluding the cities of Seattle and Milton.
Reserve a spot by calling 206-296-4490. Participants will meet at 16645 228th Ave. SE in Maple Valley and then board a wheelchair accessible Metro bus for the guided tour. The tour is intended for adults, though children ages five and over are welcome with adult accompaniment. Attendees must wear closed-toe footwear and adhere to all traffic signs at the landfill.
